It is a separate company by two co-founders of EQ, and while most staff work for either one or the other company, split between two office locations, some staff work for both, and we are the same company family. • Starting in 1995, Mark Prado, EQ's co-founder, created a website for helping other foreigners, and sharing his experiences. This was a hobby and offered for free, and later became www.ThailandGuru.com . Many people coming to Thailand asked Mark for a lot of help, and Mark decided to publish all his assistance on a website for everyone rather than just one-on-one email. Mark organized his advice and articles, often researching further for good questions, and constantly expanding the base literature on modern Thailand. Inquiries started coming in from strangers, and Mark was meeting interesting new people. It seemed like a good idea to turn it from a hobby to something more established. Around the turn of the century, Mark branded the name as Thailand Guru (because of referrals to "the Thailand guru" in his community). Many years later, it's still going strong. Foreigners email and call us for assistance in starting to work and/or live in Thailand.

• Wanida Musika, EQ's other co-founder, was a journalist in the 1990s, with a specialization in interviewing and writing stories on Thailand's leaders in society, business, and politics. Wanida was best known by her professional associates for her exceptionally beautiful Thai writing style, and she read English articles whereby she developed her English to a good level. From Mark's business consulting, he was aware of many companies' and peoples' needs for translation, particularly good quality translation. There were many disasters due to things lost in translation, and a lot of shortfalls such as in marketing materials, which had significant financial impact in those customers' operations, so Mark and Wanida recognized the need for a quality translation service. For this reason, Mark and Wanida developed the translation division within EQ. Wanida now manages it at a high level but not day to day (though is often found on the computer late at night proofreading and improving the Thai language), and New Zealand expat Sam Fraser, who has taught himself Thai over many years, also helps proofread and correspond, though our half dozen or so fulltime translators plus topic specialists (field dependent) can also handle your needs. • We perform proper company setup, work permit, and visa extensions for foreigners coming to Thailand to do real business. (Notably, we do not create shell companies for the sole purpose of gaining a business visa for longer stays.) We can also help with finding office space, physical setup of the company, any Board of Investment incentives, and various other advice. However, this is not a mass market service.

However, we often make referrals to other accountants and firms, depending upon your company's business sector and their experience.

We are sometimes contacted by people overseas looking for a source of particular products. We have also helped people to set up export companies. However, exports has been a business based on personal contacts thus far, and we have not yet developed a presentable public interface or website.
